Ok, I've had a couple of strange things happen to me lately, and i just felt like posting about them.
First: My family and my cousin Mike and second cousin kenzie went crabbing on the Sound last saturday. Our boat was stopped in about 50-57 ft. deep of water while we were waiting for crabs, with about 14 other boats around us, must be a popular spot or something. Every once n awhile we see a seal or an otter, so we kinda were looking out for things in the water. Then we see these two heads about 100+ ft. away from us. We wernt quite sure what we were seeing, because we couldnt believe our eyes! There was a mother and baby deer, in the middle of the Sound! We brought the boat closer for a better look, and yep, they were just walking across, from one island to the other. Ends up that there was like a five foot shelf right there, but man, you really dont expect to see deer walking among the boats while crabbing!
Second: Ok, I just had to post this one for Sam. Last Sunday my family and the Hoffard family had lunch at my Oma's and Pake's house. Me and sam were kinda bored and were talking in the living room downstairs. One of us got the idea in our heads that it would be "interesting" to hide from the younger kids. I really dont know why we did it, its not as if the kids were gonna notice we were gone or anything. Anyways, sam ended up underneath the piano, and I hid behind a stuffed chair. We heard someone coming and figured it was the kids. It ended up being Oma and Pake showing the hoffards the house. They come into the room rambling on in Dutch, (which neither of us can completely understand) and exclaiming about certain features of the room. Me and Sam looked at each other and somehow communicated that it would be way too embarrasing to revel ourselves. So we sit there, anyone could see me or sam had they looked. I saw someone talking about my chair without somehow seeing me. At this point it got really hard for me not to laugh, so i was biting my fingers to keep from doing so, while sam was giving me a "whats-your-problem" terrified look. When they finally went away me and sam pretty much died.
Third: The big one
Ok, you guys all know that i got bit by a cat at my workplace, but not all of you know the how. Firstly, I'm the first one at the place in the morning because i open (duh!) and them next person who works in the back doesnt come till 8, 2 hours after I do. So my main task in the morning is getting the animals fed, and if they are surgery patients, sometimes weighed. So there was this pretty huge cat (freaking 18 pounds!) that was a surgical case. It had somehow taken off its e-collor in the night, so that should have been the first sign for me. I took it out, it really didnt want to leave the cage, but it didnt put up too much of a fuss. I got its weight just fine, no prob. I put it back in a cage, and I guess I didnt close the door fast enough, because it flew out right past me, and went under the x-ray machine. I went and quickly closed preop door, because other than that one door, the back was completely closed in. In the meantime the cat was going crazy, trying to climb counters and get under things. I tried to grab it by its scruff a couple of times while it was distracted, and i guess thats when he bit and clawed me. I honestly dont remember anything other than trying to get the stinking cat. He finally squished himself down and was growling and hissing underneath some of the kennels. We have this thing at work that is a net that closes like a clamshell, but I couldnt find it. So i tried to use the rabies leash that kinda works like a lasoo to get him out. no luck. At that point I FINALLY notice that my gloves are shredded and dripping with.....blood! I kinda felt sick then, but I didnt take the gloves of yet to look at what happened cause they are a little bit of protection for my hands. I called Sarah who was the next person to come in and asked her to help me! She asked on the phone if I got bit, and at that point I didnt know, so I said no. She came pretty quick, but she couldnt get him out, and she still had stuff to do that morning before work, so we called tom in. After we called him we realized that he didnt havta be there for another 3 hours, so we felt kinda bad. while we were waiting sarah had me wash up my hands. I found out that I had two deep pucture wounds from a cat bite on my left wrist, and my right arm was shredded up a bit with scratches. Tom came and got the cat with sarah, with the rabies leash. My wrist swelled up really bad, and they sent me to the emergency clinic, because they said there was something in cat spit that was unhealthy. So I went after I called mom. I was actually not in too much pain at that point, just shaking like a leaf. I went in, did a pile of paperwork and the doctor looked at it. He musta seen something weird because I got X-rays and everything. He sent me home for the day, told me to keep it elevated, and soak it every hour, and gave me some antibiotics and some severe pain medication, which by that time I pretty much needed. needless to say, I slept until about 5 at home, then took some more meds. I noticed then that my right pointer finger was swelling up too, and there seemed to be a small pucture that wasnt apperant before, so we figured it was another cat bite. one of my other bite marks started having this white stuff come out of it, so I went to the doctor the second time, this time with mom driving. I was still in pain, but when we got to the hospital I was sick in the bathroom. the doctor looked at my bites and said I was off for the next day as well, and prescribed me some less stronger antibiotics. Then I was sick again in the bathroom on the way out. mom drove me to work so i could drop off the second doctors slip, and have someone else open for me. Tonya and Will were in the back so I handed it off to them. they asked how I was doing and i told them what happened and that the drugs were doing funny things to me. they both pretty much at the same time asked if i better not have driven myself. I said no. I was told later that I looked and acted pretty drugged up. So now I have two weird little knobs on my wrist where the cat bit me, but it doesnt hurt much anymore. I was so glad I went in the second time, because if I had to work the next day, I would have had to deal with that cat again! NO THANKS!
